For the reader in all of us, this is a must read book.
From the moment I picked up this book of Poetry I could not put it down. The depth and meaning of Mr. Skupien's poetry is second to none. I will strongly recommend this book for all.
Just couldn't put it down. I felt the words and felt the expressions. A neat amalgamation of say, Poe and Twain. It's gothic but bright, melancholy and hopeful. A really, really good reflective read especially on a cold winter's night.
Enjoyed reading this book of poetry. it would appeal to serious poetry readers. some poems were humorously written, while others were for deep thinkers. Skupien writes on various topics to the enjoyment of many.
Hastily, I read this book on a quick flight between Chicago and Atlanta. Feeling I had cheated myself, I later returned to reread it, taking much more care the second time around. What I found was a wonderfully crafted book of poems. A book filled with emotion. Skupien tackles love, death, family, and religion in a manner that is both insightful and thought-provoking. A truly excellent collection of poems that should be read and reread many times.
I found this collection very well written. I found my self wanting to keep reading , but I set it aside to enjoy more the next day. Some poems are straight forward and a new interesting look on everyday life , while others are more in depth and make you think of parts of life (love, hate, death , family , etc.) that normally wouldn't cross your mind. I've gone back and read some passage a few times and it gets more interesting each time.
I would highly recommend this to all.
Steve M. Skupien's The Wrong Pipe is an insightful collection of metered poems that will take you on an emotional journey. I am impressed with how well his verses are constructed. Rhythmically the poems flow beautifully. While many of the poems have a somewhat Victorian feel, Skupien has done a fantastic job of making the verse not sound too dated or old-fashioned. While some of the subject matter dives into a dark sadness, a tinge of humor will keep the reader wanting to keep reading. This book is a must read for any lover of poetry.
I was surprised by the depth of emotion I felt as I read these poems. They are meant to be savored, a little at a time, as the author brilliantly conveys his thoughts and feelings through his beautiful writing. It was almost like a glimpse into the window of his soul. Some are dark, some are joyful, all provoke thought and feeling (my personal favorite is The Raindrop and The Tear!) Thank you, Steve M. Skupien, for sharing a part of yourself through your poems. Looking forward to your next "work of art."
